Role Impact
As part of the Aviation Public Safety team, the Airport Communications Specialist serves as the central communication hub for airport operations. This role ensures accurate information flow, rapid coordination during incidents, and professional support for tenants, airlines, first responders, and the public. Success is defined by clear documentation, confident decision-making, and calm, effective communication in time-sensitive environments.

Key Responsibilities
• Serve as the primary communications liaison between airport operations, tenants, airlines, internal departments, public safety, and the surrounding community
• Receive, prioritize, and dispatch calls for service, operational requests, and incident notifications
• Monitor communication systems and send alerts or notifications to stakeholders as needed
• Maintain detailed communication logs, incident reports, and activity records for compliance and operational tracking
• Enter, assign, and track work orders to ensure timely resolution
• Support emergency response by notifying appropriate agencies, documenting events, and assisting with coordination efforts

Minimum Qualifications
• Two (2) years of experience in a fast-paced, 24/7 operations or communications environment such as airport operations, airline operations, emergency dispatch (911/public safety), security operations center (SOC), tactical operations center (TOC), transportation/logistics control center, military command center, or emergency management
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Valid and current Driver’s License

• Core Tools & Systems
• Multi-line phone systems and telecommunications equipment
• Public address (PA) and mass notification systems
• Computer-aided dispatch (CAD) or incident logging systems
• Work order management systems
• Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Preferred Skills
• Knowledge of airport regulatory and security compliance standards, including 14 CFR Part 139 and 49 CFR Part 1542
• Ability to type at least 40 words per minute
• Strong customer service and conflict-resolution skills
• Ability to remain calm and decisive during emergencies
• Ability to work in a closed-room environment, sit or stand for extended periods, and work overtime as needed
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with Sensitive Security Information (SSI) requirements
• Spanish or additional language proficiency
• Professional certifications such as ACE (Airport Certified Employee), CM (Certified Member), USAP, APCO, NENA, IAED, or completion of NIMS IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800
